I am glad you liked it. Please take the FAA Safety course New York City Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA) before you go. It will teach the proper procedures on flying through the SFRA.More importantly, it will help you fly fly safely through the busy airspace.

I'm a helicopter pilot in British Columbia, Canada, and I am also looking into using the ipad for flight. One of our big issues we've noticed with the Garmin 696 is its size. I think the ipad is about the same size. Does anyone know if RAM or another mount manuf. is going to come out with a cockpit friendly ipad mount?

Thanks Mike. Advisory Circular 91-78 clearly states that an EFB or ECD (Electronic Chart Display)can replace paper sources as long as it is current, valid and up-to-date as verified by the PIC.

Also it cannot replace any system or equipment(e.g. navigation,communication, or surveillance system) that is required by 14 CFR part 91. So Mike Miley's concern about using the iPad in place of flight instruments is valid and the use is illegal.

During the recording, I couldn't remember the reason I thought we could replace paper with an electronic version. I looked it up and it's all based on "Advisory Circular 91-78 "Use of Class 1 or Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag (EFB)" at the links below. You need to know the data is current and has a backup. For me, I use an iPad and an iPhone with the data... two electronic versions satisfies the test.

My wife and I enjoyed listening to your podcast. She is prone to airsickness so we could really relate to your story. I know it is hard, but once you enter the traffic pattern you really have to implement the 'sterile cockpit' and ignore everything but flying the A/C. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about being a new pilot! I'm about 25 hours in to my Private Pilot training and am just about to solo. For Christmas my wife got me 1/4 share in a 1978 172N, so I'm pretty excited to finish my training in my own plane! I'll actually be saving money owning than renting a 172 at $140 an hour!!
I'll definitely be goal setting once I have my ticket, thank you for the encouragement and your candid thoughts on being a pilot!
